Introducing TerrapinSTRONG Education

TerrapinSTRONG Education is a newly formulated unit that expands the spirit of the TerrapinSTRONG onboarding program to the life cycle of our community members. Dr. Leslie R. Krafft is this unit's inaugural director. The unit will continue to provide the TerrapinSTRONG onboarding program and other educational programs, including orientation to the university and the Words of Engagement Intergroup Dialogue Program (WEIDP). Stay tuned for new educational initiatives as well!

Statement of Purpose

TerrapinSTRONG Education enhances community, belonging, and inclusion for all campus community members by introducing institutional values and investing in the capacity of students, staff, and faculty to learn, teach, work, lead and engage in dialogue across differences. TerrapinSTRONG Education connects people to UMD's history, people, and traditions to build community, belonging and inclusion. TerrapinSTRONG Education encourages a campus environment where students, faculty, and staff can reach their full potential at UMD and beyond.

The TerrapinSTRONG onboarding program started in June 2021 as one of the 12 initiatives first identified by Dr. Pines when he began his presidency. In October 2024 the unit expanded to TerrapinSTRONG Education, extending the tenets of TerrapinSTRONG to the full life cycle for students, staff and faculty.
