Education & Consultation
TerrapinSTRONG Education provides consultation support for all units and organizations on campus to encourage and support campus partners in implementing strategies for belonging and community building. We also offer workshops and other educational programs to provide the ongoing development of skills around engaging across differences and enhancing inclusion. We do this work in collaboration with other units in Belonging & Community at UMD and experts across campus.
TerrapinSTRONG Onboarding Initiatives
TerrapinSTRONG onboarding introduces the importance of belonging and community from the start of a new community member’s journey on campus. Every new student, staff and faculty member completes a university-wide onboarding course, followed by initiatives across campus that support the ongoing process of finding belonging and success in our community.
TerrapinSTRONG Symposium
The TerrapinSTRONG Symposium is a collaboration between TerrapinSTRONG Education, University Human Resources and the Office of Faculty Affairs. It provides an annual opportunity for faculty and staff to learn from each other about scholarship, skills and strategies to create a more inclusive community for our students, staff and faculty members.
Words of Engagement Intergroup Dialogue Program
The Words of Engagement Intergroup Dialogue Program (WEIDP) is a for-credit course that brings students together to engage in open and honest conversations about viewpoints and cultural backgrounds and their impacts on engaging across difference. The program prepares students to navigate an increasingly diverse society through relationship-building across difference. WEIDP is a collaboration with the College of Education Intergroup Dialogue Training Hub, which provides education and training to the facilitators of WEIDP.
