Take Action

Participate in the Common Ground Dialogue Program or the Words of Engagement Intergroup Dialogue program (WEIDP) to explore how cultural systems of power impact our lives and relationships, and to gain skills in facilitating difficult dialogue.

Participate in experiential and community-based learning through Leadership & Community Service Learning (LCSL). Faculty and staff can apply to advise and students can participate in Alternative Break Experiences.

Get involved in the appropriate systems of university government:

• Create an Inclusive Learning Environment, Meeting, or Event.
• Follow the guidance on developing accessible courses & activities or check out the campus Accessibility Hub for everything you need to know about anything accessibility-related.
• Join a Design for Belonging workshop to build a team where everyone feels included.

Attend a training to learn more about how to better support others

• Get certified in Mental Health First Aid and learn how to notice and intervene in mental health challenges.

• Learn about bias and resources by attending a Stop the Hate workshop with Bias Incident Support Services.

• Learn about how you can better support the trans community from the LGBTQ+ Equity Center.

• Participate in an UndocuTerp training to better support immigrant students.

Whether it’s time, material or money you have to contribute, there are many ways to give to our community.

• Donate to the Campus Pantry, serving all members of the campus community in times of food insecurity. They accept funds and food, as well as items for the Terp to Terp Campus Reuse Store.

• Become a Fostering Terp Success Coach for former foster youth and housing-insecure students without family support.

• Join the UndocuTerp Rapid Response Team to support immigrant students.

• Give a gift to the annual Terp Toy Drive, benefiting the City of College Park Youth and Family Services.

• Donate to the Student Crisis Fund and help Terps in need.

• Visit the Stamp gallery and the Contemporary Art Collection to engage with contemporary art that addresses broad community and social issues

• Take the African American History and Landmark Tour

• Learn about Johnson-Whittle Hall and Pyon-Chen Hall

• Visit the David C. Driskell Center which is committed to preserving the rich heritage of African American visual art and culture

• Commit to taking small, impactful actions to help tackle the climate crisis with the UMD Green at Home Guide, the Maryland Campaign for Environmental Human Rights and the United Nations Campaign for Individual Action.

• Students, get certified as a Green Terp,, take action and get a sustainable prize. Greek organizations can be certified as Green Chapters.

• Employees, pursue Green Office certification.

• Sign up to receive the Office of Diversity and Inclusion newsletter and stay up-to-date about events, initiatives, and resources.
